What SEO Means
What is SEO(Search Engine Optimisation)? This is the question that many people ask. Search Engine Optimistion is defined in wikapedia as “the process of affecting the visability of a website page or web page in a search engines unpaid results…”.
At Web Design By The Bay we discuss SEO with our clients and how they can improve their ranking in Google. Some businesses believe they don’t need SEO as their business is unique, or all their work comes from referrals. However if there is plenty of competition in the business that you run, it is very important to think about SEO for your website, so that you can outrank your competitors.

A Few SEO Tips
- Be wary of Web Designers that guarantee you will rank on page 1. Ranking in Google can take time.
- Make sure that you have a meta title which contains the keyword, you are trying to rank for.
- Ensure your meta description is informative and helpful, don’t jam it full of keywords.
- Make sure that you use alternative image tags on your images.
Google’s Ever Changing Algorithm
Google use a complex algorithm to work out where your website ranks in Google. Just because you rank well one week, doesn’t mean that you are going to rank well the next. Google is constantly changing it’s algorithm, so it is necessary to watch where your website ranks and constantly keep your website up to date and fresh. Whilst some of these changes are minor, every year there is a major update, often named after animals, eg. Google Panda, Google Penguin and of course the latest update Bert.
